If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” Numbers 14:8-9 ESV
There are times and seasons when the Lord calls us to step up and out into new things, into more of His promises for our lives. These seasons aren't everyday and all the time, but they do come. And when they do, the question before us is, will we say yes, or will we turn around and walk away?
The children of Israel were delivered from a terrible slavery in Egypt and brought safely through the wilderness. Though they had so many adversities befall them, God saved them from them all, bringing them to the point of promise, the land of Israel. Numbers 13 & 14 were their defining moment! Would they step up to the giants and step out of the wilderness and their slavery mentality to grasp the promise? Sadly, the first generation refused God and His promises. They were left to spend the rest of their lives wandering in the wilderness of defeat.
This account has always gripped my heart from the first time I read it until now. It shows the undeniable reality we can miss what God has for us, that our choices have powerful consequences. Thankfully we are in the new covenant and can turn back around at any moment, but still the choice is ours. What a power we've been given.
Many times I've found myself here, standing at the entrance of God's promise over my life, asking myself, am I willing to do what it takes? Will I be brave? Will I believe? This past year, I've been there again asking myself all the same questions. Each time around brings a fresh revelation , a chance to mature. What I've realized in this season is, it's not so much about facing the giants in the land as much as it is facing the inner giants of my heart, the fear of man, the fear of failure, the fear of........
The good news is, I've seen the Lord defeat fear before so I've decided to believe He will do it again. It's a season to step up and out into the promises for me, how about you? What season are you in? Is it time to turn around, and set your eyes not only on your promises, but the One who gave them to you, Jesus, the King of Glory? Its it time to believe once again that God really can do.......exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, Eph 3:20 What will you do when that time comes around again, the choice is yours.
